Nancy Pelosi, the 77-year old House Democratic Leader took a historic eight-hour stand on the House floor in support of those who seek the American dream and the preservation of protections included in DACA (Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals). In the 300-plus history of the US Congress, it took a woman standing in 4-inch high heels to give name and context to some of the thousands of stories and narratives of Dreamers making valuable contributions to the US. An estimated 600,000 to 1 million people anxiously await action on their status as immigrants. Congress has until March 6, 2018 to address. Pelosi made her stand and marathon remarks on February 7th, after Speaker Ryan and other Republican congressional leaders excluded protections for Dreamers in the recently passed budget deal. More to come. No doubt.
